Captain America: Civil War Review

There might be spoilers for all previous Marvel Cinematic Universe movies!!!
After Batman v Superman, Captain America only had to be an alright movie to win the battle between DC and Marvel. Oh boy! Do we have a winner. (hint: it's not Batman v Superman).
After the success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War had to be something special. The Winter Soldier is probably the strongest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie on all aspects. It had a great plot, characters and action. The three things I want from any superhero movie. The Winter Soldier saw Captain America learn his place in the world and in Civil War it's tested.
Civil War picks up after Avengers: Age of Ultron, the new members of the Avengers however are all ready in the field. They're (Cap, Falcon, Scarlet Witch and Black Widow) on a mission to prevent Crossbones (played by Frank Grillo whose character was in The Winter Soldier). The mission however leads to innocent casualties. This leads diplomats from about 117 countries in the UN to sign a treaty to stop The Avengers to a private body and become run by the governments of the world. This is obviously where the civil war part starts. Some members of The Avengers agree that this must happen and while others disagree that. From here the relationships are tested of our avengers.
For a movie with so many characters, it did run the risk of having characters phoned in, and too their characters being altered for the story. Thankfully for the most part the characters feel like real people and you in turn feel like choosing a side (I was team Cap by the way). The main conflict between Cap and Iron Man is one that I can believe, we see their friendship fall over the course of the film and it's tested in ways that make sense. Overall character wise this is a great film compared to so many other blockbusters (including other Marvel films).
The main characters that were introduced here were Spider-Man and Black Panther and both of them were great, especially Spider-Man. The last two Spider-Man actors were 26 and 29, respectively, when they first played the character. I think Maguire was the superior Spider-Man but Holland does have a great chance of becoming THE Spider-Man. Thanks to spot on writing his character feels the spider-man from the comics and along with Holland's performance, Spider-Man Homecoming is now probably my most anticipated Marvel films. Side Note; I wish Marvel for the rights back for Spider-Man between 2004 and 2007 because we wouldn't have to put up with three awful Spider-Man movies.
Plot wise this is strong movie with a few exceptions. The first is that only 17 people died to the get the treaty started, i'm sure more than 17 people died in each of the Avengers movie. Also the movie was a bit slow for parts early on but in the end the film pays off big time so it's ok with me.
As so many of us know the action in a lot of movies today suck (mainly because of bad directing). Once again I scratch my head at the fact that the Russo Brothers had never directed an action movie before The Winter Soldier. When you know to look for to what makes action great, it's pleasing to see them do it right here. Like some Marvel movies there are shots that make no sense and you can barely see what is going on but it's made up when the editors cut just before a hit and you see the hit. This is better than cutting on the hit which if you watch some other action movies you can see them do that.
There were a couple of shots in the movie that were obviously CGI but when I was having fun watching this movie I didn't really care.
The main set piece of the film where all the Avengers go face to face is probably the best action scene in a marvel movie since The Winter Soldier or The Avengers. There are some surprises in this fight that I won't give away here but they do make for a very entertaining action scene.
If I had to choose what was better between The Winter Soldier and Civil War I would have to wait for another viewing of Civil War to decide. However if you asked me what was better between Age of Ultron and Civil War, it's Civil War all the way and obviously Civil War has won the battle for Marvel between DC and Marvel.
